The Latino Cultural Center kicked off the Fall 2014 semester with a successful Open House! Over one hundred students and faculty came and learned about the LCC’s history, student resources, and upcoming events. The LCC also invited people to participate in making drawings and letters of support to send them to the unaccompanied immigrant children currently housed at the Karnes County Family Detention Center  in Texas.

Heritage Garden and Storytelling Performance

The UIC Heritage Garden summer cohort of 2014 hosted a Meet’n Greet gathering where they performed stories that they collected from family and friends about environmentally-friendly traditions and practices. Their stories highlighted diverse ways that people connect with nature and how cultural heritage and intersecting identities influence their decisions and desires. The student leaders and interns then shared their internship experience with the audience and led tours of the six garden satellites on East Campus, followed by a reception at the African-American Cultural Center where visitors peeked at an exhibition in progress.
