Using the Power of Art to Mobilize

Spotlight Image for Week 6 - Spring 2016

Week 3 of our Artist in Residence was intense, but the canvas was completed! This collective art piece is an example of the LCC motto: Arts and culture are essential sources in advancing social and environmental justice. The LCC will be developing a simple dialogue guide for this traveling mural over the summer.

Week 2 of our Artist in Residence consisted of a lot of sketching and color blending as students began to bring the composition to life. As we continue to produce this travelling canvas, we invite everyone to stop by and help us complete this collective form of art.

We are excited to have kicked off our community art project with Pilsen muralist, Maestro Hector Duarte! “El mural viene parte de las ideas de los estudiantes,” shares Hector. “Colaboramos en cómo transformar esas ideas, temas y problemáticas a través de la pintura” (the mural is part of the students’ ideas; and we collaborate on how to transform these ideas, issues and problems, through painting).

This moving installation will highlight the need for actions like *DACA, *DAPA, and the Student *ACCESS Bill. Stop by the LCC to express your support and creativity, and be part of the transformation! Check out the Open Studio painting schedule!
