El Caribe Hoy—The Caribbean Today

September 17, 2014

3:00 PM - 4:30 PM

Presented by: UIC Latino Cultural Center and the Puerto Rican Arts Alliance

Join us for an interactive discussion with Carlos Hernandez, Founder and Executive Director of the Puerto Rican Arts Alliance (PRAA). He will share his recent trip to the Diasporic Caribbean and discuss the continual tension and inspiration between traditional and cutting-edge cultural expressions created in different locales and across the diaspora. We will hear how he is incorporating his findings to revitalize PRAA programs in ways that include different community voices and identities.

Carlos Hernandez holds a Masters in Urban Planning and Policy from the University of Illinois and a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Southern Illinois University. Under Mr. Hernandez’s leadership, PRAA has established a reputation of extending its regional arts program outreach and collaboration with other communities. The inclusivity of PRAA programs has led the Arts Center to become known as a unique culturally specific organization that promotes diversity while maintaining its mission and core values.

If you require any accommodations please contact us at least one week before the event.
