  • National Hispanic Heritage Month is here and it is a time of great cultural pride, but how beneficial is this approach to affirming our cultural heritage and history?
  • Should these month-long celebrations be eliminated or should they be preserved?

These are the questions explored by African American filmmaker Shukree Hassan Tilghmanas he embarks on a cross-country campaign to end Black History Month. Both amusing and thought-provoking, More Than a Month examines what the treatment of history tells us about race and power in contemporary America.

  • Approx. 60min.

Join us after the film for a panel discussion with the directors of these cultural centers.

Moderated by Kevin Kumashiro, Asian American Studies and Education.

If you require any accommodations please contact us at least three days before the event.

Co-sponsors: UIC Social Justice Initiative, Honors College, Latin American and Latino Studies Program, and student organizations O.W.L.S. in C.U.S. and Alpha Delta Rho
