Presented by the UIC Centers for Cultural Understanding & Social Change and Heritage Garden Student Task Force

Join the UIC Heritage Garden Student Task Force for a day filled with guided tours of the garden satellite sites, recipe collecting and storytelling, cooking demonstrations, and dance and poetry performances. Also, check out UIC resources working on environmental and cultural sustainability.

SCHEDULE:

• 11am – 12noon

Latino Cultural Center (LCC) – Share stories and recipes. Learn more about the UIC Heritage Garden, watch our photographic journey, and taste some salsa! Location: LCC – Lecture Center B2

Garden Tour – See our four satellites! Tour led by student interns. Location: Outside Lecture Center B2

Asian American Resource and Cultural Center (AARCC) – Receive garden information, and pick up free butterfly-shaped seed paper to plant yourself! Quantities limited. Location: Outside Taft Hall

• 12noon – 1pm

Kalpuli Nahualli Dance Group – Mazehual dancers will share their traditions that promote harmony, balance, and spiritual well-being. Location: UIC Quad

Women’s Leadership & Resource Center and the Counseling Center – Be part of an activity to nurture and replenish yourself through gardening and nature. Location: Library Quad Garden Satellite

• 2pm – 3pm

Kuumba Lynx – Spoken word artists who bust the “isms” that exist in their communities. Location: UIC Quad Gender and Sexuality Center (GSC) – Tastings and stories on how LGBTQ communities come together around food. Location: Outside BSB

Latin American and Latino Studies Program (LALS) – MeztiSoy Food Market shares community knowledge of medicinal and edible herbs. Location: Outside Lecture Center B2

African-American Cultural Center (AACC) – Share stories about a favorite dish a loved one made, recipes that you can’t live without, or steps that you take in maintaining your culture and taking care of the environment. Location: Outside Addams Hall

• 5pm – 6pm

Elephant Rebellion – Slam poetry performance that promotes social justice and youth empowerment. Location: UIC Quad
