Ana Isabel Ruiz was born in Mexico and migrated to the United States with her family at the age of five. She arrived to UIC in 2014 with very little experience in activism, but has developed a passion for social justice and advocacy, especially for children and young families. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology with a minor in Criminology, Law and Justice. She has been involved with several student organizations such as MeSA, FUA and UPRS, in which she held E-Board positions and helped to organize events. She was previously a student intern at the Latino Cultural Center, and since becoming a student educator she has trained to give tours of the LCC gallery to visiting classes and community members. She hopes to enrich her knowledge of the arts, humanities, and cultural understanding.
