creative responses to hate speech
On November 13th, 2018 the LCC hosted Theatre of the Oppressed: crafting creative responses to hate speech as part of their ongoing Artivism public program series. Teresa Veramendi, the founder of Theater of the Oppressed Chicago, led attendants in an interactive theater workshop where they used their own bodies to interpret words and create different scenes. These scenes reflected what the participants thought about when prompt to use word associations to hate speech. They used acting as the medium for creating alternative responses to possible hate speech scenarios in our communities.
