“we Overcame Torture” Lessons from the fight against sexual violence and State repression in Mexico

Presented by the UIC Latino Cultural Center

Join us for a conversation with Italia Méndez of the Campaign against Political Repression and Sexual Torture presented by the Mexico Solidarity Network. Among other things, Italia is a survivor of the systematic sexual torture committed by Mexican police in the town of Atenco in 2006. By being a fighter for social justice, an educator, and a source of hope, she has been able to overcome this crime and create tools for resisting the repressive strategies of the State and repairing the social fabric.

If you require any accommodations please contact us at least three days before the event.

Co-sponsors: UIC Honors College, Latin American and Latino Studies Program, and Women's Leadership and Resource Center
