Kim Navoa

I came to the U.S. when I was 3 years old from the Philippines. For my first 17 years here, I hid away in silence because i was scared of something I didn’t even fully understand. Inspired by my sister and other immigrant youth, I realized it was time to step up and fight back for people like me. I haven’t looked back since. 2014 marks my twentieth year living in the U.S, but only my third year living openly without shame or fear of my immigration status.

Walang papeles, walang takot! No papers no fear!

The Butterfly postcard campaign was developed by the UIC Latino Cultural Center in collaboration with student organizations Fearless Undocumented Alliance and Heritage Garden Student Group that highlights the parallels between the migration of people and Monarch butterflies across national borders.
