Although I do not personally have any direct experiences with migration (I have lived in the Chicagoland area my whole life), I come from a family that exists because of human migration. All of my ancestors came to the United States from different European countries, shared and interacted with each other, making me who I am today. I am lucky and proud to have values and traditions coming from these backgrounds, and it provides me with a uniqueness that cannot be copied.
The Butterfly postcard campaign was developed by the UIC Latino Cultural Center in collaboration with student organizations Fearless Undocumented Alliance and Heritage Garden Student Group that highlights the parallels between the migration of people and Monarch butterflies across national borders.
