❗❗Join us for a film viewing and conversation of the 2008 film Sleepdealer as we explore the enduring themes of im/migration, globalization, technological borders, corporate control, and the internet's increased impact on human connection and labor. ❗❗

📍Where: Latino Cultural Center-Lecture Center B2
🎬 Set in a dystopian, militarized future world where a technologically-advanced border strictly prevents migration between countries, the film follows Memo, a young man living in Mexico. After his family's home is destroyed by a private corporation that builds a dam through their main water supply, he becomes a "node" factory worker.
📝 Stay after the film for a 30 minute post-screening conversation facilitated by Esther Diaz Martin, Assistant Professor, @lalsatuic and @uicgws.
📚 PLUS browse a selection of books related to the themes of the film that will be available for check-out the day of the program courtesy of @uiclibrary's Undergraduate Engagement Program (UEP) and curated by LCC interns!
