Grim Monsters in Our Society

October 8, 2015

5:30 PM - 7:30 PM

Presented by: UIC Latino Cultural Center

Join Mexican Students de Aztlán (MeSA), Students for the Advancement of Freedom, Equality and Human Rights (SAFEHR), Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP), and Union for Puerto Rican Students (UPRS) for Noche de Poetas (Poetry Night).

OPEN MIC!

Don’t miss out on the amazing talented poets as they share their own poetic words on this month’s theme “Haunting -isms.”

Leading the night will be our featured poet LaPerish Barnes.

  • Who are the grim monsters in our society?
  • How do you unmask & overcome them?

Inspired by the likes of Kanye West and Malcolm X, LaPerish knows the power that lies within controversy. He seeks to make a change in the world through any platform he is given by refusing to bite his tongue while making it entertaining. He not only believes that he has what it takes to do so but to also be the best at it, such does the spirit of Hip Hop command of any real MC.

All audiences are welcome to join us at this event. Captioning, ASL Interpretation and Audio-Description services will be available upon request by contacting us.
