This documentary offers a close look at urban agricultural cooperative, Organopónico Vivero Alamar, in Cuba. The cooperative provides an example of how organic agriculture can be practiced in a city and contribute to local development by facilitating access to healthy food at fair prices while creating jobs. Through its unique design and policies, it has made environmental principles and collective labor its sources of greater efficiency.
Approx. 50mins. Spanish with English subtitles.
Screening followed by discussion facilitated by Rose Brewer, Professor of African American & African Studies University of Minnesota-Twin Cities and past visiting scholarin the UIC Social Justice Initiative.
