Join us for an interactive discussion with Ruth Gomberg-Muñoz who will present preliminary results from her multi-year ethnographic study of people who are trying to legalize their immigration status in the U.S. She will share the strategies that families develop to stay together lawfully in the U.S., and how undocumented people and their loved ones push back against stigmatizing and politically opportunistic discourses that threaten to undermine their commitments to each other.
Ruth Gomberg-Muñoz is an assistant professor of anthropology at Loyola University Chicago. She is author of the book Labor and Legality: An Ethnography of a Mexican Immigrant Network and several articles on migration, labor, and racial inequality.
