Join the UIC Latino Cultural Center and the Department of Anthropology in an interactive discussion with Sebastián (Bas) van Doesburg. He specializes in the study of indigenous 16th century pictographic texts as well as topographical surveys, which provide key insights into narratives of socio-political governance in native communities of Oaxaca, Mexico.

Sebastián van Doesburg: He is a senior advisor to the Alfredo Harp Helú Foundation, and a member of the Mexican Committee of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) of UNESCO. He has taught at Leiden University, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, and at the Universidad Autónoma Benito Juárez de Oaxaca. He has published several articles and award-winning books on this subject.
