Join the UIC Latino Cultural Center and the Chancellor’s Committee on the Status of Latinos for Zona Abierta (Open Zone) “Addressing Health Disparities with our Latino Populations”. Guest speaker Juana Ballesteros, Executive Director of the Greater Humboldt Park Community of Wellness will present her work followed by a Q&A.
Ms. Ballestros has spent most of her career working in Chicago’s Latino communities addressing health disparities such as HIV/AIDS, prenatal and postnatal health, diabetes, and asthma. She is currently the Executive Director of the Greater Humboldt Park Community of Wellness, a broad coalition of organizations and individuals who come together to improve the health and wellness of the Greater Humboldt Park community through partnership building, collaboration, and leveraging of community strengths and capital. Ms. Ballesteros has a particular interest in Community-Based Participatory Research. She has presented to faculty at several Chicago universities on equitable, collaborative research partnerships with communities. Her passion and work in community health focuses on taking a social, ecological approach to addressing multi-level systemic factors impacting health.
