DESCRIPTION:  Presented by: UIC Latino Cultural Center and the Heartland Alliance?s National Immigrant Justice Center    Join us for a presentation and communal dialogue on the history, current policies, legal actions, and grassroots efforts on the pressing social issue of family detention. Everyday mothers and children fleeing poverty and violence are criminalized and detained in jail-like detention centers. They are strategically held in remote locations making it extremely difficult for them to find attorneys to help them apply for legal protections.    Discussion led by Jennifer Chan, Associate Director of Policy at the Heartland Alliance?s National Immigrant Justice Center.
