DESCRIPTION:Artist in Residence  \n    \n    Presented by: UIC Latino Cultural Center    Join us for a hands-on alebrije painting workshop with Carlos Orozco of the Puech Ikotsindigenous artists collective in Oaxaca, Mexico. Alebrijes are sculptures of fantastical creatures hand painted with complex patterns and bright colors, made from carved copal wood harvested from the dry tropical forests in Oaxaca.     	$5 for a small alebrije (Approx. 3 in)    Regular price is $15, but the LCC will cover $10 for the first 25 participants. Cash or credit accepted! All materials will be provided.    Carlos Alberto Orozco Ocaña is a Oaxacan Huave alebrije artist who founded and directsPuech Ikots (?Words of Our People? in the Huave language of Oaxaca, Mexico), a transnational project that directly supports alebrije artists and their families through sale of their work.
