SUMMARY:Theatre of the Oppressed: Connecting Precarious Work to Public Health
DESCRIPTION:Presented by the UIC Latino Cultural Center and School of Public Health    Join us in an open space of dialogue and action using Theatre of the Oppressed techniques. We will engage in social explorations of power, privilege, and oppression, based on content from newspaper articles/interviews. At the end of this workshop, we will dialogue about the basic foundations of effective facilitation: how to be honest and impartial, consistent and flexible, accepting and questioning. While this is a creative and physical practice, no experience is necessary.     This workshop was designed for the IPHS 494, CRN 41439 Epidemics of Injustice course; the space is limited to 60 participants.    Teresa Veramendi has established herself as a theatre maker, slam poet, teaching artist, community facilitator, and administrator in higher education.     Since co-founding Theatre of the Oppressed Chicago in 2012, Veramendi has facilitated over one hundred workshops on diverse topics such as education, race, intersectionality around the country. She?s a graduate of the Tisch Drama Department at New York University and received her Master's degree in Performance Studies from NYU.
