SUMMARY:Civic Cinema: Halmoni
DESCRIPTION:Presented by the UIC Latino Cultural Center (LCC) and the Fearless Undocumented Alliance (FUA) The Halmoni documentary shares an intimate glimpse into a young activist's past and the struggles of being separated from his family. Representing just one of the millions of undocumented immigrants in America, immigrant activist Ju Hong travels back to South Korea to reunite with his ailing grandmother diagnosed with Alzheimer's. Join us as we watch this short documentary and engage with a panel of DACAmented, Chicago-based individuals, who will share their experiences with Advance Parole, a permit that allows certain non-citizens inside the United States to depart and seek to reenter the country after temporary travel abroad. Through a panel conversation, they will share their insights into traveling while undocumented and their individual journeys to reconnect with their home countries and family members abroad. \n Film Duration 22 min.
