Latino Studies Students Share Family Objects and Stories

On February 5th, UIC students from a Latin American and Latino Studies class gathered at the Latino Cultural Center for an immigration story circle dialogue. Each student brought an object and a story to share. One student pulled out a chanclas keychain from her grandfather and shared his story about immigration. Many other students shared their incredible stories about their families and immigration, and the struggles that many of them faced and how those experiences shaped their lives. This story circle was part of the developing process of an exhibit opening in May 2015 at Casa Michoacán in Pilsen called Chicago’s Families.
