America Divided – a documentary series highlighting the rise of inequalities in the U.S. In the “Out of Reach” segment, America Ferrera witnesses the difficulties for Central American refugees in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas. These refugees are hemmed-in by U.S. Border Patrol checkpoints, preventing them from receiving life-saving health care. Ferrera, whose parents and siblings are immigrants from Honduras, understands the challenges faced by new immigrants arriving to the U.S.

Film is approximately 45 min.

Film screening followed by discussion facilitated by Salud Sin Papeles members and organizers Janeth Vazquez-Ortega and Wendy Mironov.

Salud Sin Papeles is a grassroots project run by volunteers from the community who are undocumented or have seen how the immigration system affects other members of their community. They organize to improve health and access to healthcare for undocumented immigrants, their families, communities, and beyond.
