Social & Environmental Pollinators: An Art Installation to Provoke Dialogue and Action
During the anniversary celebration, the LCC engaged ten local artists from the Chicago Latino community to conceptualize, repurpose, and paint ten concrete ash urns that were part of the campus grounds until it became a smoke-free campus. This art installation was designed to became part of LCC and UIC Heritage Garden satellites and tours. The ten artists painted the concrete urns with their interpretation of “social pollinators” and animal pollinators. Read more..

Cooking up a sense of place
The UIC Latino Cultural Center’s 40 Recipes Project captures the role of food traditions in immigrant life. The recipes and the stories featured here, from the Latino community and other immigrant communities, reflect some of the ways that people incorporate new and old into their everyday life here in Chicago. Food is part of how people carve a place for themselves in this diverse and changing city, where so many cultures, dialects, foods, and art forms thrive. Through these pages, we can see continuity and change in food traditions and social practices.
