Border of Dreams

September 21, 2017

3:30 PM - 5:00 PM

Presented by: the UIC Latino Cultural Center and the Latin American and Latino Studies (LALS) Program

Join us as we reflect on the topic of immigration with Nick Oza, international photojournalist, who will present his long standing documentation of photographs focusing on migration between the US/Mexico border. Learn how the lives of these (im)migrants continue to change due to immigration policies and broader social narratives. This presentation will make you curious enough to dig a little deeper into this subject and inspire you to take action.

His photographs will be exhibited at the UIC Richard J. Daley Library on the first floor this Fall semester 2017.

Free refreshments and admission

Nick Oza is originally from Mumbai, India. He came to Chicago to study photojournalism at Columbia College. Shortly after, he moved to Pilsen. In many ways, the Mexican immigrant community of Chicago informed and shaped his career. He specializes in covering social issues, among them: immigration, child welfare, gangs, and mental health. His love and dedication to his work has earned him international recognition, and a Pulitzer Prize in photojournalism.

All audiences are welcome to join us at this program. Captioning, ASL Interpretation and Audio-Description services will be available upon request by contacting the number above.
