Civic Cinema: Lorena, Light-Footed Woman

Presented by the UIC Latino Cultural Center and the Gender and Sexuality Center

This short documentary directed by Juan Carlos Rulfo artistically tells the story of Lorena Ramírez, a long-distance runner of Tarahumara origin (also called Rarámuri) who surprised the world by winning the 2017 Guachochi Ultramarathon.

Lorena highlights the power in her cultural identity and indigeneity in this poetic documentary as she runs through the vast landscape of her native Chihuahua in her traditional huaraches (sandals).
