How can folklórico reflect different aspects of identity?
Join us for an interactive workshop with students from Ballet Folklórico to reflect on identity through the unique medium of traditional Mexican dance. Students will lead a textiles/costumes workshop and share their experiences as Latina/o youth living and dancing in the Southwest.
Closing with a 15-min performance and interpretation of how folklórico has transcended from Mexico to the U.S.
Ballet Folklórico is a student organization of St. Edwards University of Austin, Texas that educates and raises cultural awareness to appreciate the diversity on campus through dance and performances.
If you require any accommodations please contact us at least three days before the event.
Co-sponsors: UIC Honors College and student organizations Ballet de Colores, Fearless Undocumented Alliance, Gamma Phi Omega, Sigma Lambda Beta, and Union for Puerto Rican Students
