Día de los Muertos 2024: Honoring Liberation Fighters Past, Present and Future

Join the UIC Latino Cultural Center in honoring our departed loved ones, liberation fighters and environmental justice leaders past, present, and future.

 

Artmaking for Solidarity in Global Liberation Movements 

When: Wednesday, October 23rd • Time: 12pm-2pm CST

In preparation for DDLM, create buttons and posters in solidarity with liberation movements across the globe. Wear your buttons during the week of DDLM or create a poster to contribute to our communal altar on Monday. Create seed bombs with Heritage Garden.

 

Honoring Liberation Fighters and EJ Leaders: Communal Altar Installation

When: Monday, October 28th • Time: 1pm-3pm CST

Contribute to our annual communal altar installation by bringing a photo or a remembrance item of a departed loved one, liberation fighter, or EJ leader of your choice to place on our altar, which will be on display until Friday, November 8th.

 

Letters for Liberation ft. artist Briana Ureña-Ravelo

When: Tuesday, October 29th • Time: 1pm-3pm CST

Participate in a creative-writing ARTivism to honor the legacies of liberation fighters. Mail letters, offer your writings to our communal altar or perform them at Noche de Poetas. Led by artist Briana Ureña-Ravelo. 

 

Noche de Poetas: LIBERATION! (Open Mic)

When: Tuesday, October 29th • Time: 6:30pm-8pm CST

Join student organizations Mexican Student de Aztlan (MeSA), Union of Puerto Rican Students (UPRS), Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) with Anakbayan and African-Radical Focused Organization (AFRO) for a night of student poetry!

 

Music Performance and Ritual ft. La Rosa Noir

When: Wednesday, October 30th • Time: 5pm - 6:30pm CST

Enjoy pan de muerto, tamales, hot chocolate and live music! Attendees are invited to contribute to our community altar and participate in our ritual offering. Performance by La Rosa Noir. Maximum capacity 70 people.

 

Harvest Festival: Metamorphosis

When: Wednesday, November 6th • Time: 12pm-2pm CST

Metamorphosis is a transformative process that Monarch butterflies undertake within their life cycles. Join Heritage Garden in reflecting on this theme by creating seed bombs for community guerrilla gardens, sipping from our tea library, and celebrating this year's unique harvest with us!

 

All programs in-person at the LCC Gallery, Lecture Center B2. All materials provided.
