Food, Health, and Medical Shortages: Latin American Unrest and Conditions Exacerbated by COVID-19
September 22, 2021
12:00 PM - 2:00 PM
Presented by Latinx Law Student Association as part of UIC’s Latinx Heritage Month
This summer, Cuba saw many of its citizens take to the streets and demonstrate their frustrations with a lack of food, health, and medical assistance. In Cuba, many of these issues trickled down and continued to flare as a result of past dictatorships. Besides many of these crises being handed down by issues with previous and current regimes, many of these unbearable conditions have only been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Unfortunately, the attempt to speak out and protest has led to arbitrary arrests and police use of excessive force.
