No Más Bebés (No More babies)

April 28, 2015

3:30 PM - 5:30 PM

Presented by: UIC Latino Cultural Center and the Gender & Women’s Studies Program

No Más Bebés investigates the riveting history of Mexican-American women who were coercively sterilized at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center during the late 1960s and 1970s. Many of the mothers spoke no English, and were pushed into tubal ligations in the late stages of labor—often based on little more than the question “More babies?”

Led by a fearless, 26-year-old Chicana lawyer armed with hospital records secretly gathered by a whistle-blowing young doctor, the mothers faced public exposure and stood up to powerful institutions in the name of justice.

  • Approx. 79 min.
