Address

Chicago, IL 60612

In Celebration of Native American Heritage Month

Presented by: UIC Centers for Cultural Understanding & Social Change and the Native American Support Program

Beyond the stereotypes of “grass skirt girls,” Nā Kamalei: The Men of Hula explores a resurgence of men who dance hula. This film tells a story of Hawaiian pride through the exploration of male roles in the hula tradition.

  • Approx. 60 min.

Screening followed by discussion facilitated by Jonathon MeDrano, adviser in the Native American Support Program.

This dialogue initiative is a collaboration between the six Centers for Cultural Understanding and Social Change (CCUSC) and aims to create a campus that is inclusive for everyone. Therefore, we strive to cultivate, support, affirm, and create male allies and advocates because we realize that many are impacted by issues of masculinity and gender. All audiences are welcome to join us at this event.

Captioning, ASL Interpretation and Audio-Description services will be available upon request by contacting us.
