A New Tradition is Born at UIC

The UIC Heritage Gardeners tapped their first maple tree with the Chi-Nations Youth Council! Created in 2012, this group of youth and adults provide an open environment for Native Youth, to become aware of their cultural identity through art, activism and education. We are so grateful to have had the opportunity to learn from this amazing tradition and to embrace the spirit of being respectful to the land. This season they have tapped maple trees in areas such as Lincoln Square, Albany Park, Rogers Park and Pilsen. We’re committed to our trees and excited to continue the tradition here at UIC. #‎AncestralJustice‬ ‪#‎UrbanNatives‬ ‪#‎IndigenousChicago‬
