Black Mexicans
On October 3rd, 2019 the LCC hosted a screening of La Negrada as part of their Civic Cinema series.
The fictional film is identified as the first to shine light on the Afro-Mexican population residing in Mexico as well as the discrimination they face, and the lack of representation of this identity. The screening was followed by a discussion facilitated by Crystal Galván, graduate student in
the UIC Latin American and Latino Studies program. This public program was presented by the Latino Cultural Center in collaboration with the
African American Cultural Center and the Latin American and Latino Studies program.
