How Chocolate Unites Communities

Rosa Cabrera, Director of the Latino Cultural Center (LCC) at UIC, shares a story with WBEZ’s Worldview about her first encounter with chocolate, the role of the LCC on campus and how it is using cacao to explore the relationship between culture, memory, food and identity from Mesoamerican times to the presentthrough a series of educational public programs called “Chocolate: Drink of Gods, Food of Mortals.”

Don’t miss the next event Chocolate in Pilsen: Cuisine and Heritage—in partnership with the UIC Department of Anthropology and the National Museum of Mexican Art—for a lively cooking demonstration that highlights the use of chocolate in traditional Mexican cuisine.
