Puerto Rico at its Cross Roads
On Friday, August 30 th , 2019, the Union for Puerto Rican Students (UPRS), in collaboration with additional UIC departments and community organizations (see below), hosted Puerto Rico at Its Crossroads: María, Oversight Board, & Massive Mobilization. The presentation featured a panel of mayors from three Puerto Rican municipalities: Julia Nazario of Loiza, Eduardo Cintrón of Guayama, and Josian Santiago of Comerío. The representatives discussed the current state of Puerto Rico including the continued impact of María, resignation of the governor, the Fiscal Oversight and Management Board, and more!
This event was a collaboration between: Rafael Cintrón Ortiz Latino Cultural Center (LCC), Latin American and Latino Studies Program (LALS), the Latin American Recruitment and Education Services Program (LARES), Fiesta Boricua, and The Puerto Rican Cultural Center.
