Solidarity from Chicago to Orlando in Memory of Pulse Shooting Victims
The Centers for Cultural Understanding and Social Change (CCUSC) invited UIC and surrounding communities for a special remembrance of the lives taken in PULSE, a gay nightclub in Orlando, FL. This gathering included a collective tree planting procession and a “messages of love” workshop in honor of the victims. Three fig trees were planted across the UIC Heritage Garden satellites #2, 4 & 5 while reading the 49 Orlando victims’ names. We feel deep sorrow for the families, and stand in solidarity with our LGBTQ+ community.
We ask that this moment is taken not as a single act but as an ongoing conversation to envision what a more peaceful society would look like, and how we can be agents of change to contribute to this vision.#OnePulse
