Your Voice Matters: How can we Support the Arts?

On May 10th 2016, the Latino Cultural Center presented the closing program of the UIC Peace Project, as we hosted “On the Table 2016,” an initiative of the Chicago Community Trust, to talk about how we can help unite the place we call home to lead change. The dialogue was sparked by a new mural titled “Awakening Hearts, Changing Lives,” which was developed through a collaboration between the LCC, Asian American Resource and Cultural Center, and Fearless Undocumented Alliance along with muralist Hector Duarte.

One of the main things that came up in this conversation was how we—as a community—can advocate for the arts to make our homes better. The UIC campus is a “home away from home” for many students, and one of our participants reminded us that “Home is where the art is.”
