Fall 2022 – Spring 2023 Project
Memory Mapping: Collecting Local Personal Stories on Environmental (In)Justice
The goal of this project was to explore how Latinx communities experience, adapt, and resist extreme climate events. The LCC hosted a series of ARTivisms at UIC and with the local community. Through these workshops, we collected anonymous stories via homemade personal creative maps where participants shared their perspectives and stories about how Chicagoland Latinxs experience and respond to environmental and climate change issues affecting their lives.
This was part of a larger Climate and Environmental Justice Crossing Latinidades Project, supported by the Crossing Latinidades Humanities Research Initiative based at UIC, which resulted in the creation of the Chicago Latinx Voices on Environmental & Climate Change Racism report.
