Theatre of the Oppressed: Unpacking the Immigrant Journey – Teresa Veramendi, Fall 2017
On November 16, 2017, Teresa Veramendi facilitated an ARTivism workshop for the UIC LCC community on the theme of “Unpacking the Im/migrant Journey.” Using the methodology of Brazilian Augusto Boal’s Theatre of the Oppressed, participants were invited to act out complex themes together. The house was packed that day, but participants brought great enthusiasm to the activities. Many shared deep personal experiences through words and gestures, providing a space for all to learn and consider ways to better support one another.
