The Kitchen Table – Cooking up Stories to Feed our Souls

As part of UIC’s Women’s History Month Celebration, on March 7th, 2019, the UIC Latino Cultural Center hosted an ARTivism: The Kitchen Table. The day was led by actor, storyteller, and producer of The Stoop, Lily Be and Flor Azteca members, a food co-operative from Telpochcalli Community Education Project (Tcep). Attendees were encouraged to share their stories and experiences with a focus on celebrating womxn as storytellers.  Participants ate homemade tacos with handmade tortillas provided and prepared by Flor Azteca while Lily Be invited participants to create a five word story and present it in a two minute period. Lily Be assisted those participants in expanding their stories to achieve an effective storytelling experience. Lily Be emphasized that everyone has a great story and anyone can be a great storyteller while the LCC emphasized taking action by supporting womxn in our lives, the issues that impact their lives and creative solutions they are taking!
