Sasha Friedman

Masked Selfie of Sasha Friedman against a blue floral background with the title

This mask was made for me by my mother near the start of the pandemic. She cut the cloth from an old shirt that didn’t fit any of us anymore and sewed the seams while leaving an opening for a filter on the top.

Near the start of the pandemic nobody in my family had masks and there wasn’t anywhere where we could buy them so my mother’s masks were a lifesaver for me and my family.

The COVID-19 Masking Project was developed by the UIC Latino Cultural Center (LCC) in partnership with the UIC Asian American Resource and Cultural Center (AARCC) to engage students, faculty, staff, and community members in a creative and meaningful way during the COVID-19 pandemic.
